PHILOSOPHY
Our Theater aims for artistic excellence in a welcoming, inclusive environment. We want to engage our audience in effective productions that bring our community together in conversation, connection, and joy.
Through classes and productions, students develop an authentic artistic voice and deep understanding of how theater works as a tool for communication. My alumni have gone on to study theater at NYU Tisch, Yale, Loyola Marymount, Fordham, Northwestern, Wesleyan, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and more. Some work as actors in venues from community theaters to regional playhouses to the Kennedy Center; some have written scripts for the NY Fringe and university productions; others work in technical theater positions at universities, regional theaters, and Cirque du Soleil. Most seek careers outside the arts, but our alumni who are doctors, lawyers, researchers, clergy, military, and Nonprofit CEOS have all benefitted from studying theater.
Our goal is always to ensure that time spent studying theater will build students' confidence, empathy, analytic ability, and facility for working with others. Those that do continue as theater artists have plenty of time to learn the rules of "the biz" as undergrads. We build artists with something to say and a desire to use that voice to engage the community.
